TO HELL AND BACK – the Kullamannen ultra trail race
THIS IS AN ACCOUNT OF THE EPIC JOURNEY OF THE DEDICATED AND PERSISTENT FEW
Every adventure starts with a dream. And some dreams are more challenging than others. To finish the Kullamannen 100 miles trail ultra and get the finisher ring is one of those dreams. More than 70% will not make it. Many runners with very low odds keep trying, a a sign for a courage and strong dedication.
The Kullamannen 100 mile trail race was born at the Kullen Lighthouse four years ago*. The race team had gathered for a crawfish party a late summer night in July. It ended up with a crazy dream of creating a 100 mile trail ultra race that could attract ultra runners from all over the world.
A year later 147 people stood at the startline and 40 runners made it to the finish line. A great start for the 100 mile race. Soon people from all over the world gathered, like test pilots for a new airplane, to find out where the (their own) limit was.
Now more than 600 runners come every year to see if they have the guts and stamina to finish the challenge, and be rewarded with the so beloved finisher ring.
*The original race has been around for more than ten years.
In 2019 the film producer Emil Sergel documented the endeavours of the ultra runners of the Kullamannen 100 mile race. This is his story.
